CONFIRMED SIGHTINGS

In late 2012 I was invited to take part in a group exhibition in Westwerk titled »Apocalypse How?«, curated by Sabine Flunker and Marcel Mieth. For this playful conjecture on the much-announced impending end of the world as predicted by the ancient Mayan astrological calendar, I created a series of quasi-forensic exhibits titled »Confirmed Sightings«, ostensibly documenting scenes of a victimless crime or assembling still disconnected clues to some inexplicable event.

I showed the ten motifs in austere frames like shallow display cabinets, each furnished with the specific time and date of the respective »sighting«. In sequence the images established a chain of significant events. Were these photographs the silent and oblique indicators of the much-awaited momentous transformation of reality?
